Tell us about yourself!
Born and raised on the mid coast of Maine, a small town girl had some big city dreams. Flash forward 6 years into my career I decided to start the journey that would bring me here to Minneapolis! When I wasn’t in the salon (in Maine), I was traveling to my local cosmetology school and splitting my time to teach. For two years I got to teach both in the classroom and on the clinic floor working one and one with cosmetology and barber students. I find immense joy in the connections I make with my clients and students, and opening a space for creativity and finding true authenticity through self expression.
What’s your experience?: I have 7 years total behind the chair with 2 years being an instructor part time at the Aveda Institute in Maine.
What’s your specialty?: My passion is hair cutting and styling. I have vast experience in haircutting of all lengths including fades, razor cuts and curly cuts up to 3C.
I also enjoy doing lived in styles, and formal styling for wedding and events.
Why do you love what you do?: Being able to witness and be apart of someone’s self expression journey, all while having a tactile, creative outlet that changes day to day is the reason I love doing what I do.
How do you express yourself? : From a really young age I always knew I wanted to have tattoos, so I’m covered in art that represents who I am. I also love fashion and makeup and the different identities you can take on by little tweaks in your outfits.
How do you get out of a creative rut?: I find talking it out and finding collaboration on something I’m stuck on always helps get me out of my funk. I really appreciate that we all think differently and I like picking other Creatives’ brains for ideas and solutions.
Where do you go in the Twin Cities to be inspired?: Just walking the streets and people watching inspire so much thought about fashion and what people are in to.
Most noteworthy era?: The roaring 20’s will always have a soft spot in my heart. From the hair, fashion, makeup and dancing during the prohibition, it’s fascinating to me.
What do you do for self-care?: Weirdly self care for me in doing the work I do. It is my creative outlet and my place to focus on what I absolutely love which is hair and art all in one. But when I’m not at work I love to dance, go to the gym, read a good sci-fi book, or watch a movie with my partner and kitty.
Piece of advice for those struggling with self-confidence?: When u can understand that YOU ARE the main character in your story, you should absolutely do whatever is going to make you happy. We only know of this one life we have and it feels so good to fulfill those little daily wants we have, from getting the fun funky haircut, to dressing up just because you want to even though you’re only going to the grocery store. Romantize your life to the fullest everyday

Abagail’s Reviews

“I just went in for a haircut with Abagail and I couldn't be happier! I'm from out of town and desperately needed a cut on a short notice and I lucked out big time stumbling on Abagail. She was super nice and attentive and had a magical touch!! She gave me the exact haircut I wanted and made it look even better than in the picture I showed her. She is very delicate with hair and scalp and almost made it feel like a massage. It was incredible! She was friendly and able to keep a nice, stress free conversation but also gave me my space when I needed to check on work texts and emails. If you want a talented, artistic, attentive and kind stylist go see Abagail at Gem!!! You will not regret it.”

“Abagail was phenomenal! She asked a ton of questions to be sure she executed my vision and she totally nailed it. When I wasn’t 100% clear in that vision she guided me to take a some risk and add a little edge to my hair. Which was precisely what I needed. Her “chair side” manner was perfect and while we chatted about boots and tattoos she was sure to check in with me periodically throughout the appointment to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. 10/10 will book again!”
